Our commitment to a better environment with microbeads alternatives

We take our responsibility to protect the environment seriously. That’s why we’ve made a global commitment to remove plastic microbeads from all our cosmetic and personal care products by the end of 2017.

What are plastic microbeads?

Plastic microbeads are tiny plastic balls sometimes used in personal care products, such as face and body scrubs, to gently exfoliate dead skin. However, some have raised concerns that when microbeads are rinsed into water treatment systems they can pose a threat to ecosystems.

Our commitment

Since 2013 we’ve been working to remove polyethylene microbeads from every single product. And good news – we’re on track to be plastic microbead-free by the end of 2017!

Buying plastic microbead-free CLEAN & CLEAR® products

After extensive research, we’ve decided to replace plastic microbeads with jojoba and cellulose beads, which are derived from plants and will naturally biodegrade after use. Jojoba and cellulose beads are safe and kind to your skin as well as the environment.

All our CLEAN & CLEAR® products in the UK will be free of plastic microbeads by the end of 2017.

Good news - these CLEAN & CLEAR® products are already available without plastic microbeads

Facial Scrubs without Plastic Microbeads – Clean & Clear

Because shops stock their shelves at different times, you may find that it takes a while for the new products to become available in every single shop. If you’re unsure about what’s in the CLEAN & CLEAR® product you’re buying, take a look at the ingredients list. If it doesn’t include polyethylene, then it doesn’t contain plastic microbeads.
